Sourdough plum cake with poppy seeds


Poppy with plums - that's an irresistible combination! It not only pleases the palate, but is also beneficial for health. Plums help in the fight against diabetes, maintain a healthy heart and, due to their high fibre content, contribute to healthy digestion. They prevent osteoporosis, maintain youthful skin, protect eye health, strengthen immunity and increase resistance to stress. Of course, it is ideal to consume them raw, but once in a while treat yourself to them in a cake.

The poppy is a source of strength and vitality. It contains proteins and calcium - up to 12 times more than milk. Therefore, it significantly helps in the fight against osteoporosis. It also contains oleic acid, which helps improve memory, lowers blood pressure, and is a great food for breast cancer prevention. 

It is said that the so-called tastes great. blue poppy We are happy that we can enjoy it in Slovakia, for example, in this cake, because its consumption is officially prohibited in many countries beyond our borders. But we know our stuff, in this case there is really no need to worry about opium.  

You can easily bake this great cake even in a really small kitchen or at a cottage -the Orava Elektra-X2 double-plate electric oven will gladly help you with its preparation.

Ingredients: 

For the dough: ½ cube of yeast, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 100 ml of lukewarm milk, 50 ml of cooled melted butter, 150 g of plain flour, a pinch of salt

For the filling: 120 g of ground poppy seeds, 30 g of powdered sugar, 50 ml of hot milk, ½ teaspoon of lemon zest, fresh plums

Preparation:

  1. Crush the yeast in lukewarm milk, add granulated sugar and let the yeast swell.
  2. Sift the flour into a bowl, add a pinch of salt, melted butter and yeast.
  3. Prepare the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
  4. Place the risen dough on a floured board and roll it out to the size of a round or small plate.
  5. Grease the form with butter, sprinkle with flour and fold the rolled dough into it.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the poppy seeds, powdered sugar, lemon zest and cover with hot milk. Mix everything well.
  7. Spread the poppy seed filling on the dough.
  8. Arrange the cleaned, pitted and split plums on the poppy seed filling. 
  9. Bake the cake prepared in this way in an oven heated to 180 degrees Celsius for 45 minutes.
  10. Leave the finished cake to cool and dust it with powdered sugar.
  11. Serve alone or with plum compote and whipped cream.
